Tamil Nadu’s two chief ministerial candidates, CM M Karunanidhi and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa have made their assets public as per the Election Commission guidelines ahead of next month’s state Assembly polls.
While Karunanidhi has declared his assets worth Rs 41.13 crore, his political rival Jayalalithaa has declared her assets worth Rs 51 crore, as per the affidavits filed along with their nomination papers for Thiruvarur and Srirangam assembly segment respectively
KARUNANIDHI’S ASSET DETAILS
While Karunanidhi himself has assets worth Rs 4.92 crore, his two wives, Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi, have worth Rs 17.34 crore and Rs 18.68 crore respectively.
Assets declared during 2006 assembly elections – Karunanidhi had declared assets worth 22 Crore in 2006.
Cases against Karunanidhi - No criminal cases are pending against him, the affidavit said.
Annual Income - Karunanidhi had declared an income of Rs. 37 lakh per annum and Dayalu Rs. 64 lakhs during last assessment year. Rajathi Ammal had declared an income of Rs. 1.67 crore.
Debts - Karunanidhi has a debt of Rs. 10 lakh while Rajathi has Rs. 1.01 crore as unsecured loan to be repaid to her daughter Kanimozhi, Rajya Sabha MP.
Dayalu Ammal, mother of Union minister MK Alagiri and state deputy CM Stalin, owns immovable properties worth Rs 15.4 crore. She also has a car worth Rs 16 lakhs and 60 per cent stake in Kalaignar TV, valued at Rs 6 crore.
Besides, Dayalu owns gold jewellery worth Rs 10.96 lakhs and other jewellery worth Rs 1.6 lakhs and a house in Tiruvarur worth Rs.5.51 lakhs.
Rajathi, mother of MP Kanimozhi, has immovable property worth Rs 20.6 crore. She also has 25 lakh shares worth Rs 2.5 crore in West Gate Logistics Pvt Ltd and gold jewellery worth Rs 9.85 lakhs.
Rajathi also owns a house in CIT Colony Chennai valued at Rs 3.14 crore.
JAYALALITHAA’S ASSET DETAILS
Assets declared during 2006 assembly elections – Jayalalithaa had declared assets worth 24.7 Crore in 2006.
Cases Against Jayalalithaa - Her affidavit gives an overview of the 10 cases registered against her and the valuables seized by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption from her custody after her party’s defeat in the 1996 assembly elections .
Annaual Income - Jayalalithaa has no dependents and has shown an annual income of Rs 15 lakh.
Jayalalithaa’s major assets include her Poes Garden residence worth Rs 20.16 crore, four commercial buildings – three in Chennai and one in Hyderabad – worth Rs 6.91 crore, Kodanad tea estate worth Rs one crore, investments in Jaya Publications worth Rs 8.5 crore, in Sasi Enterprises worth Rs 75 lakh and Royalvalley Floritech worth Rs 65 lakh.
She has Rs 11.25 crore worth agricultural lands and cash deposits to the tune of Rs 41 lakh. Though she has mentioned another cash deposit of roughly Rs two crore in the affidavit, she said details are available only with the DVAC.
Though she has a fleet of five vehicles worth Rs 8.35 lakh, all are old. They include a 1980 model Ambassador car worth Rs 10,000.
Since her jewellery is still stuck in court cases, she has not mentioned its value.
