She began her playback singer career by singing her first song Oru Deivam Thanta Poove. This opportunity was given by A.R Rahman. This song was for the film Kannathil Muthamittal directed by Mani ratnam.
After this she continued to sing for all the South Indian films and later on she made her debut in Bollywood through the film Mangal Pandey: The Rising.
