Now Santhanam is playing a similar role in ‘Velayudham’, which has Vijay as protagonist.

“But this one is totally different to the one I did in Siruthai. Because I want to provide variety entertainment to the audience and carefully avoid doing same kind of characters,” the comedian says.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is celebrating his 37th  birthday on 22nd June. He was planning to release his upcoming film ‘Velayudham’ to coincide with his birthday as it would be a ‘perfect’ way of celebration of his birthday by his fans. It now appears that his plan has run into some hiccups and ‘Velayudham’ might not be releasing on the D-Day.

Sources close to Vijay say that as he is simultaneously shooting for Shankar’s ‘Nanban’ too, Vijay’s call-sheet dates reportedly clashed and as a result, a song sequence and a major stunt sequence for ‘Velayudham’ remain to be canned. This and the post-production work as well as the audio launch might push the film to be released either by June-end or early July, it is learnt.

Vijay’s long-standing dream of working with directors like Shankar and Maniratnam is finally coming true. Though Vijay’s much-publicised project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ with Maniratnam has been called off due to financial and other constraints, it now turns out that the ace director’s next film is most likely to feature Vijay in the lead role.

Mani is said to have sounded whether Vijay was willing to take on an ‘action role’ on the same call-sheet dates that he had given for ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. Vijay immediately nodded in agreement and the film has now been planned to be made with a budget of Rs.25 crores.

An official announcement in this regard might be made on the eve of his birthday next month, it is further reported. Stay tuned with us for further updates.

Vijay was one among the early birds who called on AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Friday, even as her party was heading for a massive win in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The actor, who supported the AIADMK-alliance in the polls, had a few minutes’ exchange with her. The ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ was accompanied by his father and popular filmmaker S A Chandrasekar.

Speaking to reporters later, Vijay said, “I was really hoping for a change. And it has happened now. This is a much needed change and the scale of victory is amazing. People have expressed themselves in a big way.”

Expressing gratitude to the members of his Vijay Makkal Iyakkam who had worked for the AIADMK-led alliance, the actor said, “Respecting my request, they worked extremely hard. I thank them sincerely.”

(கடைசி நேரத்தில் விஜய்யின் பிஆர்ஓ பி.டி.செல்வகுமார் ஒரு கோடி ரூபாயும், மைக்கேல் ராயப்பன் சில கோடிகளும் போட்டு சென்னை நகர விநியோக உரிமையை பெற்றுக் கொண்டார்கள்) இவரைப் போலவே படம் வெளியே வராது என்ற தகவலால் மற்ற விநியோகஸ்தர்களும் தாங்கள் கொடுத்த முன் பணத்தை திருப்பி தரச்சொல்லி மல்லு கட்ட ஆரம்பித்தார்கள்.

இதற்கிடையில் காவலன் ஓடுகிற தியேட்டர்களில் அப்படத்தை து£க்கிவிட்டு இளைஞன் படத்தை திரையிட சொல்லி சிலர் பிரஷர் செய்வதாக ஒரு தகவல் கசிகிறது. இது உண்மையா என்ற கேள்வியுடன் தமிழ்நாடு திரையரங்க உரிமையாளர்கள் சங்கத்தின் செய்தி தொடர்பாளர் திருச்சி ஸ்ரீதரை தொடர்பு கொண்டோம்.

டாக்டருக்கு படித்துவிட்டு, வெளிநாட்டில் வேலை கிடைத்தும் அதற்குப் போகாமல் தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள கிராமங்களுக்கு சேவை செய்யும் பாத்திரத்தில் ...நடிக்கிறார் விஜய். இங்கு உள்ள 20 கிராமங்களை தத்து எடுத்து மருத்துவ உதவி செய்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார்.

"அதைப் போல் தான் இப்ப நம்ம நாடே இருக்கு. எல்லாரும் இங்கே படிச்சுட்டு வெளிநாட்டுக்கு போய் சம்பாதிக்கிறாங்க.. நம்ம நாடு எப்பவும் தரிசாவே கிடக்கு!" என்கிறார்.

மேலும் அவரது மருத்துவ சேவை தொடர்ந்து நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. இந்நிலையில் விஜய்க்கு எதிராக மருத்துவமனை நடத்தும் ஒருவர் விபத்தில் சிக்கிக் கொள்கிறார். ஆபரேஷன் செய்வதில் கைதேர்த்தவரான விஜய்யின் உதவியை அவர்கள் நாடுகின்றனர். விஜய் அவருக்கு ஆபரேஷன் செய்து காப்பாற்றுகிறார். மனந்திருந்திய எதிர் அணிக்காரர், "எனது தேகம் கிழிஞ்ச உடனே தைச்சுட்ட.. இந்த தேசம் கிழிஞ்சு கிடக்கே... அதை எப்போ தைக்க போற..? Vijay's Velayutham is in its final leg as nearly 90 percent of the movie is complete. The director is rushing up the movie to make it a perfect birthday gift for the star. Jayalalitha in Velayutham’s audio launch? [TFC]

If reports from Kollywood are to be believed, the AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalitha has agreed to participate in the audio launch function of Velayutham. Vijay’s father, director SA Chandrasekar had supported the AIADMK during the current elections and had campaigned for the party.

Following this, there were rumors that Jayalalitha would attend the audio launch of Sattapadi Kuttram but this did not happen as she was busy with the election campaign. With the elections out of the way now, it is expected that Jayalalitha would grace the audio launch of Velayutham. Sources also say that Velayutham’s producer Aascar Ravichandran is making arrangements for a grand event at the Nehru Indoor Stadium.

Vijay's support is fully for AIADMK [TFC]

Proving media reports true, ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ Vijay on Sunday extended the support of his Makkal Iyakkam to the main opposition AIADMK in the April 13 elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.


Popular film director and father of Vijay, S A Chandrasekar, called on AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at a hotel in Tiruchi on Sunday afternoon and informed her about the decision.


Chandrasekar, closeted with the former Chief Minister for about 20 minutes at Sangam Hotel in Tiruchi, said the Iyakkam favoured political change in the State to ensure that it develops equitably.


An AIADMK press release said the party general secretary thanked Chandrasekar and Vijay for their support. Speaking to reporters later, Chandrasekar said he will soon commence his campaign in support of the AIADMK alliance.

‘Velayudham’ Shooting at brisk pace-80% shooting over [TFC]

The next Vijay blockbuster is gearing for release. ‘Velayudham,’ a product of director Jayam Raja is 80% complete. The film has actor Vijay as the hero with Genelia, Hansika Motwani, and Saranya Mohan as the lead ladies. Most of director’s films have oodles of family sentiment mixed with the right amount of comedy, great songs and beautiful locales.

Sources close to the film’s unit have revealed that the team will soon be heading to an undisclosed overseas location for shooting a couple of songs. They have also revealed that the post-production work is also being carried out simultaneously. The film which set off on a positive note post Vijay’s huge success in his ‘Kavalan’ will be released by mid-2011.

Post the success of ‘Kavalan’ there is a lot of expectation on Vijay and now with the actor signing films with directors Shankar and Mani Ratnam the fans of the actor are already in high spirits. Sources close to the director have revealed that this film is a superhero subject. This news will be a bonanza for all Vijay fans who would love to see their favorite star scaling multistoried buildings and rescuing damsels in distress.

The music for this film has been scored by Vijay Antony. He was nominated by Vijay TV for the best music director award for his compositions in ‘Vettaikaran.’ The music was a rage among young children and youth.
