VEDI MOVIE REVIEW

Cast: Vishal, Sameera Reddy, Poonam Kaur, Vivek, Devi Sri Prasad and Sophie Choudry
Director: Prabhu Deva
Producer: G K Film Corporation – Vikram Krishna and Shreya Reddy
Music: Vijay Antony
Cinematography: R D Rajasekar

If you are the one who is satisfied with a collage of fights, songs, sentiments and other ‘masala’ elements in a film, Vedimay surpass your expectations. For this Prabhudeva-directed, Vishal-starrer movie is a full-length commercial entertainer which gives no work to the brain. You come, enjoy and go.
After a serious outing in Avan Ivan with Bala, Vishal is in full form in an outright commercial movie. The man who shot to fame with films like Sandakozhi and Thimiru, in the association of Prabhudeva, has come out with a Telugu remake (Souryam), which is as hot and as spicy as Andhra meals. But a feel of déjà vu prevails all through, which may not impress those who expect certain amount of novelty.

STORY LINE

Prabhakaran (Vishal) comes to Kolkata from Thuthukkudi. The reason for his travel is conspicuous. In the capital city of West Bengal, he meets Deepa (Poonam Kaur) and seeks her help for his stay. In the meantime, he comes across a vivacious Paro (Sameera Reddy) and her gang of friends.
Meanwhile, some evil elements trouble Divya andPrabhakaran comes to her help. Even as Paro slowly falls for Prabhakaran, a flashback reveals that he has some scores to settle in his life. There is a sibling story which is coupled with an underworld backdrop. Prabhakaran is hunted by lot of goons in Kolkatta, as he is the man who had challenged the all powerful underworld don (Sayaji Shinde) of Thuthukkudi with success. The don wants to kill him and he has found that Prabhakaran has a sister. He starts playing a crude game but Prabhakaran is game for it.
Who is Prabhakaran? Why he is in Kolkata? Why doesn’t he reveal his identity to his sister? What happens to the love story? The latter half answers all the questions.

VERDICT

Vedi aims to be a commercial entertainer but fails to entertain as it lacks in novelty or newness. If you have more than two hours to kill on a weekend, Vedi may be your destination.

Star-casts: Vishal, Sameera Reddy, Vivek and others

Vishal’s award-winning performance in ‘Avan Ivan’ has been keeping on headlines and the actor is now ready with his next film ‘Vedi’. Completely different in style, the film will be a commercial entertainer. The film, a remake of Telugu movie ‘souryam’ stars Vishal as a cop while Sameera Reddy stars opposite him in female lead character.
The album has 5 tracks that are penned by Vaali, Thamarai, Na. Muthukumar, Vivega and Kabilan each.

1. Enna Aachi
Singers: Vijay Yesudas, Janaki Iyer
Lyrics: Thamarai
The albums opens with a best number titled ‘Enna Aachi’, a beautiful track crooned so resplendently by Vijay Yesudas and Janaki Iyer. You’ll fall in love with the song for the first time your hear to it. Vijay Anthony has once again proved that he can score brownie points with melodies.

2. Ichu Ichu
Singers: Vijay Anthony, Sangeetha Rajeswaran
Lyrics: Vaali
It looks like Vijay Anthony has felt that Sangeetha Rajeswaran’s voice is most apt for the his folk-based songs. The duo had earlier geared up for a scintillating number in Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’. This song has a slow tempo and yet doesn’t fall short of Vijay Anthony’s touch over the beats and composition. Vaali has done the song in his own style.

3. Ippadi Mazhai
Singers: Karthik, Saidhavi
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar
Set in style of techno beats, the song has Saindhavi rendering with her mellisonant and Karthik doesn’t strain much over his vocalisms. The lyrical lines by Na. Muthukumar is just mediocre and even the beats and special sound effects doesn’t cater to the listeners’ interests. Maybe, we will have to wait and see whether it gains popularity as the time advances.

4. Bombay Ponnu
Singers: Mamtha Sharma, MLR Karthikeyan, Senthil Das
Lyrics: Vivega
It sounds like Vijay Anthony is vividly influenced by Bollywood item numbers. The song has a mix of Bhangra and techno that will surely give an impressive feel when watched on the screens. Mamtha Sharma strikes with a spectacular show while MLR Karthikeyan and Senthil Das have their best works established here.

5. Kadhalikka
Singers: Emcee Jezz, Naresh Iyer, Andrea Jeremiah, Rap Vocals – Sharmila
Lyrics: Kabilan
With so many singers invovled in the song, the expectation goes up on greater levels. Of course, the song is spellbinding for the works of singers and the beautiful composition by Vijay Anthony. The music director has very well orchestrated with the voices and the instrumentals. Doubtlessly, the song will grab away everyone’s attention.
On the whole, ‘Vedi’ has some average songs that will go on well with certain adudineces.

Vishal to align with Boopathy Pandian (TFC)

Though no official announcement has been made, it is highly likely that actor Vishal might choose director Boopathy Pandian to direct his upcoming film after he wraps up his present project ‘Prabha’. The film, which is directed by Prabhudeva, pits Vishal opposite the ‘hot’ Sameera Reddy for the first time in his career.
Vishal to align with Boopathy Pandian
More than half-a-dozen directors have been going around in Kollywood telling the media that they have narrated script(s) to Vishal and would be directing his next film. The list also includes Thiru, who directed Vishal’s ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’.
Vishal, though, is said to have decided to try his luck with Boopathy Pandian, who is known for making films which are commercially successful with equal doses of comedy, action and sentiment. In filmy parlance, Boopathy is known as a ‘minimum guarantee’ director which means that his films would be doing not so badly at the box-office.
The choice by Vishal to align himself with Boopathy Pandian for his next film was based on the above-said considerations, it is said. In order to direct Vishal’s films, the director is also said to have made some ‘concessions’ vis-à-vis his fee for the film!

National award beckons Vishal in Avan Ivan? [TFC]

Director Bala has changed the careers of many actors and put them back on track or on the road to stardom. He did wonders for Vikram with ‘Sethu’ and made a star out of Surya in ‘Nanda’ and cast both of them in the mind-boggling ‘Pithamagan’. It appears that Bala has another winner on hand in his upcoming film ‘Avan Ivan’.
National award beckons Vishal in Avan Ivan?
This time around, Bala has chosen Vishal who had only been seen in commercial films, to show the actor’s mettle and what he is made up of. It is rumoured strongly in Kollywood that Vishal’s role in ‘Avan Ivan’ is likely to fetch him many an award and it may not be surprising if he even ends up winning the coveted national award for ‘best actor’ for his role in the film.
Vishal, who would be seen along side Aarya, plays a petty thief in the film and has done something that’s unthinkable for any actor on earth: Vishal appears in ‘squint eyes’ in the entire film, straining his cerebral neves to create and sustain that look, against the advice of his family doctor.
For a particular sequence in the film, Vishal was to utter his dialogues in an inebriated condition (for the film, of course). Insiders reveal that Vishal actually drank some ‘liquor’ and did the sequence, which came out very well and made Bala appreciate Vishal’s professional attitude.
Isn’t it what you call as commitment?
